About the Department of Poultry Science

The Department of Poultry Science in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas, is part of the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science.  The department provides comprehensive programs in research and teaching dedicated to improving the lives of people associated with all components of the poultry industry by generating knowledge through research and putting that knowledge to use through education.

The Department of Poultry Science offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Poultry Science. Graduates with this degree receive a broad education in the science and business of animal agriculture, focusing on poultry. They are prepared to enter a variety of careers in either the public or private sector and many students are also ready to apply to a professional school in medicine, dental, pharmaceutical or the veterinary sciences.

Our faculty is the best in the world. They are researchers for the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station and the Cooperative Extension Service, and their innovative research moves right into the classroom.

About the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science

Mission Statement:
The Center of Excellence for Poultry Science shall provide comprehensive programs in research, teaching and extension dedicated to improving the lives of Arkansans associated with all components of the poultry industry by generating knowledge through research and putting that knowledge to use through education.

Broad Objectives:
The Center of Excellence for Poultry Science shall develop the knowledge and intellectual capacity to meet the specific needs of poultry production-processing-marketing firms to help them remain competitive in a global economy. The CEPS shall meet the needs of society regarding issues such as food safety and security, human nutrition, animal health and well-being, and environmental stewardship.

Facilities

Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences

The Don Tyson center is located right off I-49, making it easily accessible for both local residents and those coming from out of state. It is a short 4 minute drive from the University of Arkansas campus, an 8 minute drive to the Fayetteville business district, and a 10 minute drive to the Fayetteville square, making it ideally located for any event.

Smart Farming Research Facility

The Poultry Science Smart Farming Research Facility is located at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Milo J. Shult Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Fayetteville.
